The New Haven-based
lighting restorer and designer had its custom outdoor wall bracket fixtures
installed at
Steve Stockman, the owner of Grand Light, was happy to be entrusted with the task.
"Over the years we've done extensive work with Yale - I was pleased to hear from them again and I look forward to working with them more in the future. The best measure of our success is the feedback we receive. Both the University and their architects were thrilled with the scale design and physical appearance of the lanterns."
These custom lanterns are fabricated from laser-cut
stainless steel, featuring detailing around the body and top of the fixtures.
The hinged doors reveal a sophisticated removable ballast and lamp system that
provides a wide range of energy-efficient illumination.
The glass is frosted and seeded, and it was made to match
the university's other outdoor fixtures as well. The meticulous design process
culminates with a glass and frame that allow a desirable amount of light to
emanate evenly from the lanterns.
The heavy brackets that support the lanterns are hand-forged
and shaped from iron with iron rivets at the joints. Grand Light's designers
chose to assemble the bracket without welding in order to maintain historical
accuracy.
