New Haven, CT - Grand Light was asked to design and fabricate four hand-crafted custom library light fixtures for a private residence in Potomac, Maryland. The fixtures were to be installed on custom bookshelves which curved in each corner of the room.
Grand Light was sent a floor plan of the library where the fixtures were going to be installed. These fixture were unique because they were not going to be installed on a typical straight line bookshelf. These fixtures were going to cover a straight line and were to curve with the shelves that were located in the four corners of the room. The customer had sent a sample of the radius and the custom millwork for the bookshelves for Grand Light to design around.
A Concept drawing was sketched by hand which served as the blueprint for our production and approval process. The drawing addressed the smallest of details, allowing our client to visualize the fixtures before the fabrication process began.
The custom library fixture were made using steel. The fixtures were designed using two 38" straight tubes, and one 38" curved tube, which was designed to accommodate the radius. On each of the 38" sections, two custom spinning's were made to house 120 volt, 50 watt MR16, GU-10 Base lamps. Once the fixture were fabricated and assembled, they were then dis-assembled to be brass plated in order to achieve the desired antique brass finish.
Upon component finishing, the fixtures were then re-assembled, wired, final tested and given their UL label. Given that these fixtures were one complete assembly the fixtures were crated to assure an safe arrival.
