  • Project Overview
Silliman College is the largest of all 12 residential colleges on Yale University's New Haven, Conn. campus. It was named after Benjamin Silliman, the "father of scientific education," who was the first professor of chemistry at Yale, and later went on to become a renowned geologist. Opened in September of 1940, the college was designed by Otto R. Eggers, of Eggers and Higgins, an architectural firm based out of New York City.

Renovations on the campus began in 2005 were completed in August of 2007. It was at this point that Grand Light's restoration specialists began their work for the college. The project they were called in for was a complete restoration of an antique chandelier and matching sconces, hanging in the dining hall of the Master's House.

Grand Light's restoration specialists cleaned every part of the chandelier, from the delicate crystal strands and pendalogues to the polished metal finishing of the antique. The damaged metal and crystal components were either repaired or carefully replicated for historical accuracy. To complete the restoration, Grand Light repaired and rewired the chandelier with UL listed components.
